Windows 10 has a great user interface and its desktop view is really beautiful compared to Windows 8.1. However, despite the desktop view is beautiful, you may at times find the absence of weather information on the desktop a bit boring. You can however change that easily. It's pretty easy to add weather information to your Windows 10 desktop. Let me show you how you can easily do that in just a few simple steps
Windows 10 has a weather app that you can open to get the weather of your location and other favorite locations. It is quite a powerful app that provides information in a format that is easy to understand. What makes it very useful is that this information is updated on the fly. For this, you need to be connected to the Internet. Let us have a look at the app.
To start the weather app, click Start and then select the weather tile from the Windows Start menu.
The tile for the weather app may look slightly different on your computer, and it may be in a different location. Clicking the tile will start the app. You should see the following window.
This window shows us the Weather app window with the default location. In this example, it shows the default location as Manila. You can change the default location. Please note that the extreme left of the window has the menu (Arrow 1). And the top line has the context menu (Arrow 2).
We have expanded the menu and the context menu to show you what the options represent.
As you can see, the menu has options that show the Forecast, Maps, Historical Weather, Favourite locations, and Send Feedback. At the bottom of the menu, you see the person's details logged in and the Settings.
The context menu has different options, depending on the menu option selected. For Forecast, the options are Refresh (to refresh the window), Add to Favourites (to add the displayed location to your favorite locations), and Pin (to pin your current location to the Start menu as a tile). You can change the Theme of the window to a light or dark theme. The extreme right has the Search box where you can search for a location.
To change the Weather app's default location, click on the settings to see the following pop-up.
You could ask Windows to detect my location or type a Default location in the search box below the option. You can also change the view temperatures to Fahrenheit or Celsius. Also, from the Settings menu, you can change the Weather app's theme to Light, Dark, or the Windows default.
From the Forecast option, we searched for London.
And, we clicked on the Save as favorite option (the star). Now, if we select the Favourites option from the menu, this is what we see.
As you can see, we can add more favorite locations. To delete a favorite, just right-click on it and select Remove from favorites. Even if you right-click on the Launch Location tile and select Change Launch Location, you will be able to change the Launch Location.
Let us take a peek at the Maps and Historical Weather menu options in the next few screenshots.
The four screenshots above show the Temperature, Precipitation, Satellite, and Cloud information for the selected location. These are the four sub-options in the Maps menu option. Please note, each of the four options has an animated forecast view of the information for a full 24 hours.
Here are some screenshots of the Historical Weather option.
This shows Temperature and Rainfall details by month.
As you can see, the Weather app in Windows 10 is quite useful in many ways. It can show you the weather details of different locations that you can add as favorites to the app.
All the information are presented in a form that is easy to understand and use. Of course, for the app to work well, you need to be connected to the Internet to get live results or information of each location in your favorites list.
