How To Block Apps On Xbox One?

Microsoft’s new iteration of its Xbox One gaming console includes a handful of improvements centered around gamer preferences, including the ability to filter which applications they can use and play within the console. If you are someone who plays multiplayer games on your Xbox One often or a parent who wishes to control app use on your Xbox One for your children, the process for blocking applications is the same no matter if you are using Windows 10 PC or Xbox One console.

Both adults and kids love to play games on Xbox One. But Xbox one is a modern gaming console that allows playing games and allows access to music, videos, and web browsing. Restricting Games/Apps/Medias on Xbox One

You have to create a “Microsoft Family Group” (it’s free) before blocking a game or app. This will allow you to manage and monitor your children’s profiles. However, after creating the group:

1. Open the family group in a browser.
2. Go to the account where you want to block the apps/games.
3. Click on More options, and from the drop-down menu, click “Content restrictions.”
4. Scroll down to the “Apps, games & media” segment.
5. Open the menu under “Allow apps and games rated for” and choose the age limit for the account you are editing.This will block all the apps which Microsoft restricts under this age limit. However, you can still allow the user to use the blocked apps/games. For this, you have to approve it manually.

If the user is trying to access a blocked app or buy something, you will get an alert on the “Microsoft Family Group” home page.” You can either “Allow” or “Deny” the request. You can also use the “Activity” tab to manually block an app if the age restriction settings do not stop.

Restricting Web Browsing without Blocking the Browser App

If you don’t want to block the browser app on Xbox One but want to restrict inappropriate browsing, follow this procedure:

1. Open the “Content restrictions” page just like before.
2. This time scroll to the “Web browsing” segment.
3. Enable the “Block inappropriate websites” button.
4. You can manually allow and block any websites by using the expanded menus.

This will allow you or your family members to use the web browser app but restrict everyone from entering inappropriate content.

Blocking Contents from Xbox One’s Menu

You can restrict or block contents, filter web contents, use a passkey, and more using the parental controls on Xbox One. For this:

1. Open the “Main Menu” of Xbox one.
2. Go to “Games & Apps > Settings > Privacy & Online Safety”.
3. There will be four “PRIVACY” options (on the left), three of which (Child, Teen, and Adult defaults) are pre-configured, and the fourth one can be customized.
4. Choose either one according to your preference.

According to age, the “CONTENT RESTRICTIONS” list on the right allows you to block or unblock apps.

1. Click on “Access to contents.”
2. A list will come up and let you choose contents “Appropriate up to age XX”.
3. Choose your desired age to block contents that are not allowed within the age limit.
4. Go back and then enter “Web filtering”.
5. Please turn it on to restrict the user from browsing inappropriate content on the internet.

To use a passkey:

1. Go to “Settings > Sign-in, Security, and Passkey”.
2. Now create a 6-digit passkey that only you will know.
