One of the best DNS providers, Open DNS is also one of the most often used by hackers to bypass ANY firewall or IDS/IPS in place. A standard configuration to any basic router or firewall is to have a DHCP reservation so that the public IP would always be passed to a device that connected first on the Ethernet cable. Most commonly used devices in a home (laptops, desktops, printers, NAS systems) always try to get a DHCP lease at power on.
You may apply the smartphone’s address for a website or use its IP address rather than any generic address to trick some Internet security applications to access the restricted websites. However, Open DNS makes these tricks ineffective and unnecessarily blocks or authorizes access to various safe websites. So for accessing those websites, you should know some methods to avoid Open DNS.
Bypass Open DNS applying Common Fixes
- You may avoid the network constraints appointed by Open DNS if your PC is connected to the modem via Ethernet. Remember that it will probably be seen as trespassing if you do this from any public IP such as workplace or school.
- The modem is typically isolated from the router. So, if you apply a router and modem combination for the internet, this approach may not work. It works best for home networks that feature Open DNS parental controls set up.
- You may also apply the data connection of your smartphone over the WiFi network. It is known as “tethering,” and not every mobile provider adds this process. If you cannot select your network from the computer that bypasses Open DNS, you probably cannot apply “tethering” here.
- Applying a VPN to bypass Open DNS is effective also. There are many VPN applications on the web. However, most of them charge a price for the service, and also some constrained PC will not permit to use them. You may use the Hotspot Shield software.
Bypass Open DNS applying an Online Proxy
- First, you have to go to an online proxy-providing site. You can find these sites from Google.
- Then, select the website’s search bar and enter the website address that is blocked.
- Advance through with the appropriate option, and it will open the site. Then, you can browse it usually, although the network speed may be lower than usual.
Bypass Open DNS applying a Portable Browser
- You may use the Tor browser for this. So, download it from here – Download Tor Browser and set it up on your PC.
- After setting it up, access the browser. The Tor browser launch screen will show up. Select “Connect.” After a few seconds, the Tor home screen will appear.
- From there, you may access any blocked sites from the Tor browser as it has an internal proxy system.
- If bypassing Open DNS is not working, you may also try to remove Open DNS from your PC. First, select the “Open Network and Sharing Center” option from the “Internet Connectivity” icon. Then, go for the “Network Sharing Center” option.
- Select the “Connections” option from beneath the “View your active networks” section.
- The “Local Area Connection” screen will show up. Pick “Properties.”
- Access the IPv4 properties screen by double-clicking on the “Internet Protocol Version 4” option.
- Go to the “DNS server addresses” option beneath the “General” section and erase the Open DNS IP addresses.
- Then, choose the option top of it to get the DNS server addresses naturally. It will remove the Open DNS from your PC, and you can easily access the restricted sites.
