Method #1
The first method is the easiest and most straightforward of all. You are just required to press the keyboard shortcut CMD-Shift-3. The screenshot of the entire screen of your MacBook will be captured, and it will be saved as a PNG file.
Another way to capture the entire screen screenshot is by pressing CMD-CONTROL-Shift-3, and the screenshot will be copied to your clipboard, which later on you can copy to another program like Word or PowerPoint.
Method #2
In this method, you can capture any portion of your MacBook screen. Press the combo of Command-Shift-4. It will convert the cursor into a cross-hair cursor. Click and drag that cursor to the area of the screen you want to capture. When you cover the area of your choice on the screen, release the mouse button, and the captured screenshot will be saved as a PNG file in your MacBook.
Another option is to press CMD-Control-Shift-4. The same cross-hair cursor will appear. You can click from the start of the area you want to capture and drag it to the end. After you release the mouse button, instead of saving the screenshot into a PNG file, it will be copied, and later on, you can paste it into another program.

The third method is to press the combination keys CMD-Shift-5. After pressing the keys, a small panel will pop up at the bottom. In this panel, you will see different options for screen capturing and screen recording. The options of screen capturing include a window capture, the entire screen capture or selecting the portion of your screen. At the same time, the recording options in the panel can record the whole screen or a part of it.
The option of choosing the place to save your screenshot is available on the right side. After capturing the screenshot, it will be previewed in the lower right corner of your screen. You also have the option of turning off this option on Mac.
Method #4
This is yet another option for capturing a specific application window. To capture it, you will press and hold CMD-Shift-4 simultaneously and then hit Spacebar. It will change the cursor to a camera, which is moveable around the screen of your Mac. Move this camera cursor to the application window and press the mouse button when the app window gets highlighted. The Window screenshot will be captured and saved as a PNG file on your Mac.
The next option is to press and hold CMD-Control-Shift-4 and then hit the Spacebar to copy your captured screenshot instead of directly saving it as a PNG file. When your cursor is changed to the camera icon, move it towards the app Window and when the Window is highlighted, press the mouse button. The captured screenshot will be copied to your clipboard, and you can paste it to any other application.
