Have you ever panicked because you have to get on your computer immediately but couldn’t because you don't have it with you? Even though you can now save your files in the cloud, what if you forgot and realized you have to access them only to be away and not able to log in to your PC? Or what if your computer has a Particular program that you need to use?

If your computer is at home and you’re currently traveling or in case you don’t have VPN access to work from your remote computer or device, there is no way for you to access the application or program you need.

Situations such as these are often difficult and can only slow down your work efficiency. Whenever you’re in times similar to this, you wish you could always have your PC with you. Fortunately, remote access can make that achievable, but without needing you to actually take your computer anywhere you go.

What is remote access?

Remote access is exactly what its name implies. It grants you access to your computer from a remote location. It is a useful function when you need to access your computer from a different location anytime given that there’s an internet connection. A remote connection can also be useful in situations when you need assistance or whenever you guide others by connecting to their computers.

All those are actually made possible by the Windows Remote Desktop feature in Windows 10. In a nutshell, it’s a feature that enables you or others to connect to your computer remotely through a network connection, thus allowing you to completely access everything on your computer as if you are directly connected to it.

Even though remote access can be helpful for most people, there are also cases that it might compromise any confidential files you have on your computer. As such, make sure you don't enable the function on your computer unless you really have to for security reasons. It’s because this particular feature can give authorization to anyone to have full control of your computer.

As a result, they can add, remove, and change any important or confidential files you have. If you suspect that someone is doing some suspicious activity on your computer through remote access, you have to disable this feature right away.
