So, in this article, you will learn about how to do both of these. But before using, first set up your Active Directory. After setting it up, let us move on to how to use it.

Using Active Directory

  1. For using Active Directory, first, you have to assemble a domain controller. Authorize a static IP address through your domain controller. Then, set up  Active Directory Domain Services from here – Setup ADDS.
  2. Access the “Server Manager” window. Locate “Roles Summary” and click on it. From there, choose “Add roles and features”. Then, proceed by selecting “Next”.
  3. Pick the “role-based or feature-based installation” option from the appeared window. However, If you wish to redistribute the domain controller in a virtual tool, then choose “Remote Desktop Services Installation”.
  4. You will see many server options in the “Server pool”. Pick one. A list will emerge. Choose “Active Directory Domain Services” and advance.
  5. Keep all the features as default and proceed forward. Complete the installation by selecting “Install”.
  6. Then, put a domain name by choosing “Add a new forest”. And, choose the “Domain functional level” as required and give a password within the “Type the Directory Services Restore Mode (DSRM) password” option.

  8. Choose a folder to save your index and record data. Advance through the next step and complete the process by clicking “Install”. Your system will automatically restart.
  9. After setting up the domain controller, move on to making Active Directory users. You may choose the “Remote Server Administration Tools” that offers  “Active Directory Users and Computer (ADUC)”.

  10. If you don’t have Remote Server Administration Tools on your computer download it from here – Download RSAT for Windows 8, Download RSAT for Windows 8.1, Download RSAT forWindows 10.
  11. After installing RSAT, go to “Programs and Features” on your computer. Pick out “Turn Windows features on or off”. Go lower and click on “Remote Server Administration Tools”. Locate the “Role Administrator Tools” option. Enhance it.

  12. There you will see the “AD DS and AD LDS Tools” option. Select it. Click on “AD DS Tools”. Select “Ok”.
  13. Now, for making users account, navigate to the “Server Manager”. Select the “Tools” option and locate the option “Active Directory Users and Computers”. Then, click on it.
