We all know that we can save web pages to our computer as a PDF, but what about saving it as HTML? That way you can access the source code, edit it, and include it on your personal website or forward it to someone else. This article tells you how you can save web pages as HTML without the hassle of installing additional software or plugins.

Save web pages as HTML in Edge

You may want to save a webpage to view it at a later stage or to study how it was created. You may also want to save a webpage to view when you are offline. Either way, the method to save a webpage as Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) is very similar in Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, and Firefox.

All three browsers have a similar way to save a webpage. In all three browsers, you can save a webpage by pressing Ctrl+s.

Here are three screenshots of the same webpage in Edge, Chrome, and Firefox respectively. In all three cases, Ctrl+s was pressed. Each picture shows you the different options to save a file in these three browsers. Please note these screenshots were taken on a laptop running Microsoft Windows 10 Home Edition Single Language, 20H2. Here are the pictures:

As you can see from the three screenshots for the three browsers, the Save as type seems to have similar options in several cases. Let us talk of the common Save as type options in all three browsers.

Save as type: HTML only (Edge, Chrome, and Firefox)

If you select this option, the webpage is saved in a single HTML file. When the saved file is opened offline, it loads all the HTML elements, but not elements like ads on the page and other elements like scripts. Even when opened when online, it loads all the HTML options. If you want to save a single webpage, this may be the option to go with.

Save as type: Webpage, complete (Edge, Chrome, and Firefox)

This option seems similar to the previous option. Except, in this case, a folder is created with certain elements. However, when opened offline, the page looks similar to the file saved in the HTML-only option. Even when opened when online, it looks almost the same as the HTML-only option.

Save as type: Single file (Edge and Chrome)

If you save a webpage with this option it is saved as a .MHTML file. This file can only be opened with Internet Explorer. Once again, it looks like the HTML only version of the saved page. To save a file as HTML, this is not the option you are looking for.

Save as type: Text (Only Firefox)

This option is only available in Firefox and saves the file as a text file. This option is presented only for information.

Please note that if you have a different version of Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, or Firefox, you may see different Save as type options.

In short, saving the webpage using the HTML only option may be the best way to save a webpage as HTML in either Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, or Firefox.
