When we use the modem for the internet connection, we can work on only one computer at a time. If you want to use the internet on two computers together, you need another modem for that. Connecting One Modem with Two Computers
Follow the steps below to connect two computers with one modem for an internet connection.
- Turn on your computer and plugin/install the modem on your computer. Make sure the internet is working.
- Now, navigate to the “Start” menu button and click on the “Settings” icon from there. If you can’t find it, type “Windows Settings” on the search option and open it from there.
- Click on the “Internet and Network” tab from all the options available on “Windows Settings”.
- A new window will appear on your screen. Here you can see your internet connectivity status.
- Now, click on the “Mobile Hotspot” option from the left of the tab. The PC “Mobile Hotspot” settings will come on your screen.
- Find your WiFi network “Name and Password” option from down.
- Now, click on the “Edit” button. Give your computer WiFi a proper network name and change the password as well. Editing the WiFi name makes it easier to find in on other devices. Click on “Save” to save the change.
- Navigate to the “Mobile Hotspot” option on top and switch on the button from there.
- Now, click on the “WiFi” icon from the desktop taskbar. Your computer hotspot will turn on.
- Now, go to the computer home screen and click on the “WiFi” icon from your desktop taskbar.
- You will see all the available WiFi nearby along with the WiFi you just created on your other computer.
- Click on the “WiFi” you just created and enter the password to connect it with your computer.
- Your two computers will be successfully connected to one modem.
Connecting Computer and Mobile through Modem
You can use the PC Modem to use the internet on your phone as well. And to do that, you need to go through the same settings we explained in the first method. Follow step 1- step 9 exactly we have instructed above. When done, follow the steps we have added below.
After turning on your PC hotspot, open your phone “Settings.” Find “Settings” from the application section or swipe down the notification bar to open it.
- Opening “Settings” from the phone.
- Now, scroll down and open “WiFi” from there.
- Here you will see your computer WiFi. Tap on it and enter the “Password.”
- Your phone will get connected to your computer hotspot.
Why is My Hotspot Not Working?
Sometimes the Pc hotspot doesn’t work even after completing all the steps correctly. Many times it’s because your modem is not working. That is why the hotspot fails to provide an internet connection to the connected devices. Other than that, if your PC hotspot doesn’t work, here is what you can do.
- Turn off the PC “Hotspot” and go back to your home screen.
- Now, remove the “Modem” from your computer.
- Restart your computer.
- Turn on your PC hotspot again.
