Google Drive has become a go-to choice for most people as it combines the best features from a range of other applications. The ability to create, edit and collaborate with Google Drive opens up many possibilities for working effectively both alone and with others. But, there are times when you need to get your files from your Google Drive into another application such as Excel or Powerpoint. In this article I'll explain how to do that on your Mac or PC.
Google and Microsoft are two tech giants that are always competing to surpass each other. Both have their wide selection of software and services that we use on daily basis. Google and Microsoft both provide documents, spreadsheets, presentations, event scheduling, storage, and a lot of similar useful services separately. But sometimes, we need to combine different services to our advantage.
So in this article, we’re going to learn to integrate Google Drive to Office Online to access and edit files from different platforms.
Cloud storage integration is one of the smartest things to do. Not only do you get access to your files, but you can also perform necessary edits without changing the platform. So without further ado, let's get to the how-tos.
Before starting to follow the steps you need to ensure some facts. Or the process may not work as you should have:-
Microsoft already released official instructions on how to integrate other cloud storage with Office 365. It should guide you to register your desired cloud storage service on the client machine of the user. The cloud storage service should automatically install on your computer via its setup program.
The registration involves registry keys to provide Office 365 with details of the cloud storage service. However, there are some technical terms involved. So if you’re confident about your skill, learn more from here.
Google Drive used to have a plug-in that made it possible for Microsoft services to access files from Google Drive. However, it’s is no longer available in that form. Google now has a Drive File Stream system in G-suit that allows access to Drive files on demand.
So only G-suit customers can access this feature and edit Drive files from Microsoft services. G-suit allows even easier access to Drive files. The “Insert files from Google Drive” option is already integrated for a convenient experience.
This method is very simple, but you’ll need G-suit for it. Learn more from here.
So the bottom line is, once you manage to integrate Google Drive with Office Online, you can access and edit any Drive file from Microsoft services.
If the direct integration didn’t work for you then we suggest doing it the old fashioned way. You see Google services such as Docs, Spreadsheet, Slides, etc supports saving in popular Microsoft formats. You can save Drive files with .docx, .xlsx, .pptx, etc extensions.
So, to avoid further hassle, simply download your file in a Microsoft supported format then import your file to any online Office platform. Files such as a pdf, jpeg, png image, etc global formats can be imported directly.
