We all know that Mac screen is the brightest we can get and is the most comfortable for our eyes. Then why does it seems like there are hardly any opportunities for us to make our Mac display brighter than 100%? Is there any way we can do this?

Make Mac screen brighter than max

If you want to make your Mac screen brighter than the maximum, you will need to adjust the brightness using the following methods.

Adjusting the brightness of Mac for maximum output

You can adjust your Mac screen brightness settings for maximum output by following three methods: automatic, manual, and keys. You can then adjust your settings by increasing the output to make your screen brighter than the maximum output.

Increasing brightness after adjusting settings automatically

The brightness of your Mac will be automatically adjusted to max depending on the available lights in your surroundings. But a must needed built-in device is the ambient light sensor. Without this device, your Mac device will not be able to adjust the brightness automatically.

To check if your Mac has the device installed, search it on your Mac manual or paperwork and you are good to go. Normally it is provided in almost all Mac devices.

To adjust the settings using the sensor, follow the procedure:

  1. Click on the “Apple” icon on the top-left of your Mac screen and select the “System Preferences” option from the appeared list.
    Select the System Preferences
  2. Click on the “Display” icon from the system settings list.
  3. Tick the box on the option “Automatically adjust brightness”. Your screen brightness will be maximum based on the surrounding lights the sensor detects. To make your screen brighter than the maximum, adjust the brightness bar above the tick box to increase it.

  4. This action is temporary as the screen brightness will be adjusted again automatically by your device after a few minutes as you have enabled the option for automatic adjustment. Remove the checkmark of automatic brightness and increase the brightness bar.

In this way, you can adjust your screen brightness brighter than the maximum output the device provides.

Adjusting brightness using function keys

There are shortcut keys to directly change the brightness settings of your Mac device. There are two keys for brightness in your Mac keyboard. Click on the Increase button to increase your brightness. Your screen will indicate the status of brightness from the brightness bar. Increase the value until you have reached the maximum value.

Using keyboard buttons

Now go to the “Display” settings from your “System Preferences” option. Look at the brightness bar. If the bar is maxed out, the device is providing maximum brightness. If the bar is not maxed, slide the bar to the right to make it brighter than the maximum output provided by the function keys.

Adjusting from the Battery settings

You can also max your brightness by changing the settings on the battery option which is on the top left of your Mac screen. Click on the battery icon showing the charge status of the device and select the “sun” icon to go to the brightness settings. Maximize the value of display brightness.

Change brightness from battery settings

Note that, if you adjust the brightness by this method, the maximum output will be seventy-five percent of the brightness capacity. You will need to adjust it manually from the “System Preferences” settings to make your screen brighter than the allowable limit on the battery settings as more brightness means more power consumption so the system has put a restriction on the maximum values.
