Did you know that Hotmail emails are not compatible with every email client? The solution to that is to change the setting in your email program. There are two different types of settings. They both should be changed to receive and send Hotmail emails effectively.

Change My Email Client Settings on Hotmail

Hotmail was one of the first original email platforms launched by Microsoft on the internet. Millions of people used Hotmail as their form of communication all over the internet. However, Microsoft decided to phase it out back in October 2011. In 2012, they relaunched Hotmail with a new look, brand, and interface under the name Outlook.com.

Sometimes, you might need to update certain settings in your email client. Whether you want to set a new password or just customize the interface of your client, you’re going to need to access the settings menu.

In this article, we’re going to take a look at how you can change your email client settings in Hotmail or Outlook.

Change or Update your Email Settings from Mail via Control Panel

Before following these instructions, you need to know the details of your account. You should know your email’s incoming and outgoing servers, the account type, and the SSL and port settings.

If you don’t know this information, you can contact your email provider. For Outlook, you can find this information in the POP and IMAP email settings.

  1. Open Control Panel on your Desktop. You can do so by typing “control panel” in the search box.
  2. When inside the Control Panel, look for the Mail icon. Open it.
  3. Look for the Mail Setup – Outlook window and click the Email Accounts… option.
  4. Look for the Account Settings window and click it. Next, select the account you wish to change and select Change.
  5. Inside the Change Account window, look for Incoming mail server and Outgoing mail server settings. Check to see if they’re the same as your email provider. If not, update it.
  6. Verify whether you’re using the right username and password as your email provider under the Logon information tab.
  7. Once you’ve verified your username and password, click on More Settings.
  8. Next, click on the Advanced tab located in the Internet Email Settings menu.
  9. Check the Incoming server (IMAP) and Outgoing server (SMTP) numbers. Compared them to your email provider, if they are different, change them.
  10. You should also compare the encryption types for both Incoming and Outgoing servers. Manually change them if they aren’t the same as your email provider.
  11. Once that is all done, click OK to finalize.
  12. Finally, click on Test Account Settings found in the Change Account Window.
  13. If you have red markers, there are still incorrect settings. Green check markers indicate that you’ve successfully changed your settings.

Simply follow the steps above, and you should be able to change your Hotmail’s email client settings without any issues.
