So, now I am going to show you several methods in this article about why you can't edit on Draw.io from Google and how to get it fixed.
Draw.io files are diagrams or shapefiles produced by Diagrams.net. It’s an open-source program that works both online and offline. Meaning, you can access and edit Draw.io files using a web browser such as Google Chrome, Edge, Safari, or, you can download the software on your Windows, Mac, Linux, or Android OS.

It’s the extension of an open-source diagram/flowchart making tool called Diagrams.net. With this free tool, you can create interactive charts, designs, project outline, team hierarchy, etc.
Besides designing, you can edit, revise, and share your designs with other users. Additionally, you can export your design into several common formats to use on different platforms.
Let’s learn how to edit Draw.io files from different Google Platforms.
Using a Google Chrome
You can easily open a Draw.io file using Google Chrome. To do so,
- Open your Google Chrome browser.
- On the search panel, type in “Draw.io”. Then hit enter.
- You will be redirected to a diagrams.net website. From there, you can create a new diagram or open/import an existing file. By default, Draw.io searches Google Drive for files. That is after you enable a dedicated Gmail account. You can change your online cloud storage anytime you want. You can even import a file directly from your local storage.
- On this menu, add an account or shift to different cloud storage. Then you can directly import Draw.io files from the cloud storage.
- To upload a file from your computer, click on “Open Existing Diagram”. Then navigate to the far right “Upload” tab. From there, you can import a Draw.io file from your local storage.
Just like that, you can edit on Draw.io using Google Chrome.
Using online Google Services
Using the Draw.io integration tool, you can access your diagrams or flowcharts from different Google platforms such as Google Docs, Slides, Spreadsheet, etc. To do so, you have to integrate the Draw.io tool with the Google Marketplace. Let me show you how.
- Open a blank Google Doc.
- From the horizontal top menu, navigate to “Add-ons”.
- You will be redirected to Google Marketplace. Find the Draw.io add-on and install it.
After installation, you should be able to import Draw.io files to Google Docs, edit and publish them.
- Or if you’re looking for a Spreadsheet integration, open a blank spreadsheet ( An existing one would do also).
- Find the “Add-ons” tab from the menu. Click and select “Get Add-ons”.
- You will similarly end up on the Google Marketplace. But this time, it’s for Spreadsheet. Find the Draw.io add-on from the menu as before and install it.
You can integrate Draw.io with Slides following a very similar process. And with the integration, you can import and edit diagrams on Google platforms.

- Create a new Google Drive document with the template for the diagram.
- Choose Actions->Open With->Draw.io from the menu.
- Enter your draw.io account credentials.
