In this tutorial, I'm going to demonstrate how to set up a game using Steam emulate running Windows with the help of a pre-built software.

Setup a Game Using Steam Emulator

Steam is a great platform that lets you play PC games with ease. Most PC gamers use it because it features a Steam library for storing games. You can also add games from other sources to your Steam library.

Below is a guide on how to add Steam games and set them up using Steam emulator.

How to Add Steam Games from Humble Bundle?

One way to add games to your Steam library is by getting them from Humble Bundle. Here, you can get games by linking your account or in form of Steam codes. If you choose to get them by linking your Steam account, Humble Bundle will automatically send the games to Steam once you make your purchase. This eliminates the process of entering codes.

Here is how to link your Steam account to Humble Bundle:

  • Create your Humble Bundle account or login if you already have an account
    Humble Bundle account
  • After login in, you should see your email address at the top-right corner.
  • Select it and then click on Settings from the drop-down menu.
  • When the Settings page opens, navigate to the bottom and locate the Steam Link menu.
  • Select the Click here and you will automatically be taken to the Steam login page.
  • Once there, input your information. Doing this will automatically link the two accounts so that the games you buy on Humble Bundle are automatically taken to Steam.

How to Add a Non-Steam Game to Steam?

You can also purchase games from other services other than Steam. Steam lets you add games from other services like Electronic Art’s Origin Platform and GOG.com into your Steam library. While these games don’t come with Steam features, you can still launch them and even get the Steam friend list.

Follow these steps if you want to include non-Steam games to Steam:

  1. The first step is to locate the game that you want to add on your computer. Take note of the file pathway since Steam will need it to find the location of the game files.

  2. Once you have identified the file pathway, you now need to launch Steam.
  3. Next, go to the Games option at the top menu and click on the "Add a non-Steam game to my library” option from the drop-down menu.

  4. A separate window should appear where you will choose the program that you want to add. If the game is not listed in the program window, click on the Browse button at the bottom of the page and go to the location of your game on your computer. Once you find it, click on it to add it to the original Window.
  5. Once you find the program, click on the box next to it.
  6. Then click on the Add selected programs button.

How to Add a ROM?

If you want to play ROMs, you need to add them to your Steam library as well. However, this process is not easy and you might need to speed up the process by using tools like Steam ROM Manager or Ice.

You need to create a shortcut in Steam to an .exe file that will work best with your ROMs. Here is how to:

  1. Follow the above steps to choose a program file, but this time, select an executable one.
  2. Next, you need to locate the folder where your ROMs and emulator are installed. You can copy or write down the file path to use later.
  3. Go to Steam and find the program and right-click on the game you want to add.
  4. On the menu, go to Properties and a screen will pop up where you can edit the shortcut.
  5. Edi the shortcut and alter its file path to the Tile of your ROM.
  6. Go to the Target field and highlight the text and then replace it with the emulator’s file path while still retaining the quotation marks.
  7. Next, put a space after the emulator’s file path and then add the ROM’s file path with quotation marks.
  8. Once done, the shortcut will locate the emulator and run it and then locate the ROM and run it.
