Methods in Detecting Chunk Borders

There are a lot of ways to determine chunk borders. Here are three of the methods that you can use. These work well, so it's up to you to choose the easiest and fastest way to fit your technique in playing, the type of device you are using, and the type of Minecraft world you are in.

Chunk-based Coordinates

If you are playing in different Minecraft world types, this method is very convenient for you because this works in any Minecraft world. However, make sure that you are the owner or the admin. All you have to do is to follow these steps.

  1. Enable your coordinates by running the command "/gamerule showcoordinates true."
    Gamerule showcoordinates true
  2. Grab your coordinate.
  3. Go to your Apps setting on the chunk-based website.

Leaf Method

If you happened to cross a bunch of leaves with about 20 blocks wide or long, then you can use this to detect chunk borders. Here are the steps for you to follow:

  1. Go to one corner of the leaves.

  2. Go to setting.
  3. From the setting, go to the video setting.
    Go to the video setting
  4. Turn off fancy leaves. Go back to your world and start a block update. That will update tons of leaves. However, there will be a gap where you could see the basic leaves and fancy leaves. The location of the fancy leaves will help you locate a chunk edge.

  5. From the gap, you could detect a chunk border.

  6. Once you detected a chunk edge, mine out a line of about 20 blocks away from it, and that marked a chunk edge. Update all leaves again.
  7. Go back to setting and turn on the fancy leaves Update again, and once you detect a chunk border, mine out until it crosses the one that you mine out from the previous step. Through this, you can already detect the exact location of a chunk.

Locator Map

Using a locator map, you could detect chunks aligned with each other. Thus, this is very convenient. These are the simple steps that you need to follow:

  1. Grab different colors of blocks and go to one of the corners of your locator map.
    Grab different colors of blocks
  2. Make a line of blocks going towards one of the borders.
    Make a line of blocks
  3. Once your map stops rendering that line of blocks, that means it hits a chunk border.
  4. Make again another line of block perpendicular to the line of blocks you made a while back. Once your locator map stopped rendering that again, that means that you already detected a chunk border.
